Following a meeting at Belhus we have now decided on our next endeavour which is going to be a cracker but to pull it off we are going to need a lot of support so read on and if you would like to help them drop me an email at mike@bucktails.co.uk.
We are calling this foray "the March For charity team marches through time" which is a bit of a mouthful but the basic idea is that at the "Blast from the past" multi-period event at Broadlands next year (2011) we will have a team of people to take part in every event, one after another throughout the day. As there are three arenas at this event with battles or demo's running concurrently in each arena we will need three teams, one for each arena, and each team will have to have a support team to help them change between events as well as keeping them fed and watered etc...
As with the Half Marathon we will be doing this on behalf of the ABF. We have already been in contact with Howard Giles who is all for it and happy to allow the ABF in to the event to collect, so we should be able to get away without having to beg quite so much from friends and family this time. Not that any donations wouldn't be gratefully received but we will not have a target to reach so a lot less pressure. We have also been in contact with Gun Mart & Skirmish mag who are both willing to support us with loads of publicity as they did for the half Marathon.
If we are going to do this it will obviously take quite a bit of organising as we have to get the agreement of all the other re-enactment groups (which we can start at this years event) so if you are interested in taking part either by joining in the battles or by providing support for those taking part then can you let me know ASAP. Be warned that anyone volunteering to be on the "fighting teams" will need to be reasonably fit as you will have to fight maybe 8 or 10 battles back to back with little or no rest in between and as this event is in August it could be hot as well. It may also be necessary for you to do some training with the other groups to make sure you are safe before they let you in to their events.
So far we have a reasonable number of volunteers for the fighting team but we still need more people to help support them. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone who doesn't feel they would be fit enough for fighting team to still get involved. We especially need more female helpers, I don't mean to be sexist but I think women just tend to be better organised which is what's needed in the support teams, so how about it girls? and don't forget this gives you a legitimate reason to spend a day helping fit young men take their cloths off, (well maybe fitish & youngish anyway)!
Finally this endeavour is not limited to just SoSkAn members so if anyone is a member of any other society or group that will be taking part in the "Blast from the past" event then please spread the word and tell anyone who is interested in helping out to email me at mike@bucktails.co.uk. We already have a couple of non SoSkAn people on the team including our latest recruit, Colonel Rich Adams from Co. B, the Bucktails, based in Harrisburg Pennsylvania.

Just to say it is not to late to get in touch and join the team either as support or a fighting member , and we will be getting together at Broadlands in August to take names of those interested . If you can let us know before that you are interested in joining the team it would help us as we are being filmed at Broadlands as there is a docummentry being made about the team and this venture so forward notification would help us organise times.
Get in touch either with Mike on the contact above or on amandad878@aol.com and let us know. _________________ 42nd Pa

Hi Folks,
thank you to everyone who supported us on our last venture and next week the Just Giving site for the March for Charity will close. The ABF are arranging a cheque hand over for Puxton Park as this is where we launched the March last year.We will hand over a cheque for £6,806.11 and with the gift aid that the charity recieves for donations ( £656.87 ) they will have had £7,462.98 from us towards helping all the soldiers , ex soldiers and their family that need help.
Well done to all the team who took part and thank you to all those who supported them as between you all I think you should all be proud of what was achieved.

Just a note to keep you all updated.
The March through History is coming together well and we have had very positive support from the other societies who will be at Broadlands
We have a director , Jeremy Freeston , who is going to be making a documentary about the Team and the Challange which will be filmed over the next twelve months starting from Broadlands this year.
Bernard Cornwell ( author ) has also given us his support and will be sending us signed books to auction off to raise money plus letters to use on the web site and in our press realeses giving us his support.
Ed Tudor Pole ( `swords of a 1000 men` , Crystal Maze , Tenpole Tudor etc.) has met with us and wants to give us as much help as he can with getting press attention and touring dates allowing is looking at coming to events and joining in.
We will keep you updated as we go through this project but it all kicks off this coming weekend . _________________ 42nd Pa

Really productive weekend at Broadlands, every society that i personally talked to were very supportive of the March through History and are more than willing to help out and even add members to the team.
Met some great people and look forward to working with them all more in the future. _________________ Matt Bell

Hi,
something happened at Detling that made all the hard work worth while , while shopping in Lee Prescotts stall a member of the public came up to Lee to ask him if he knew where to find Soskan and the Bucktails as he wanted to shack the hands of the March for Charity team as he had followed it through Gun Mart. Lee explained where Soskan was and introduced him to Dave,Mike and James .
We had already learnt over the past few months how many other re-enactors had followed the venture but it is nice to know that the general public read and take note of what we do .
